Book as a friend
Some people just don\’t like it. He learns to read, but it withers for him and he reads only what he has to and what interests him in the newspaper. The sports section, for example. And sometimes not even that. Another type of person has it completely backwards. Reading is his hobby and books take up every available space in his home. Outside of the library, they are also found on the armchair, on the shelves, in the kitchen, in the pantry, and all over the place. There\’s no place where a book isn\’t put and no place where another one isn\’t immediately there.
Being friends with books is all very well, but nothing is to be overdone. We only need as many as we have room for, and those that are already read can be put back into circulation. Remember always that only barbarians threw away books and only ignorant people burned them. The ordinary user of books never throws them away, but sells them on or takes them to the bookstore. They are usually in every major town, and now in almost every village. If you bring some there, it will only be a good thing. You never know if someone else will be interested in them too. Someone who has a similar interest but no longer has the money to get the book and the library doesn\’t have it. So he looks in the bookstore and lo and behold, he\’s got it.
You must never betray your friends, but in our case, the only betrayal is to throw the books away or burn them. Try offering them for sale in a few places. Nowadays, in the age of the internet, it\’s certainly no problem to display them somewhere, i.e. photograph them and wait for a buyer to come along at a reasonable price. You will see that this will happen and you will get a few crowns back. Maybe even on other, i.e. new books. The number of mainstream bazaars is large and if you are smart, you will only find ones that trade in books you have already read. You can also get a lot of books for less money than in a shop. Definitely check out a book bazaar sometime. Or an antiquarian bookstore. You\’ll be amazed what you can buy here.
